Coaches and Mentors have given me more nuggets of wisdom than could fit in Arrowhead Stadium. Their depths and wealth of experience have enriched my knowledge and have helped me grow both personally and professionally. Their encouragement has blessed me, particularly in this journey toward my doctorate.
"SHE'S BEAUTY AND SHE'S GRACE, SHE'S MS. UNITED STATES...."
Dr. Hennen-Burr is a mentor-extraordinaire. Her wisdom is greater than Yoda and Solomon. A self-admitting Pollyanna, she's grounded in reality with the utmost optimism which has been invaluable to me as I formulate leadership qualities within my authentic self. Even when I finish my degree, she'll stay on my "speed dial."
Dr. Dressen is the Man the Myth and the Legend. I'm beyond humbled to have crossed paths with a man who is as friendly as the kindest Santa and as wise as Simon Sinek, Bolman and Deal, Dan Allender, and Patrick Lencioni combined. If ever I have a existential crisis or moral dilemma, he's my go-to. I'm grateful for both his influence and perspective.
Dr. DeeAnn Schnautz was an unexpected blessing that was presented during my graduate studies. From her I gained a grounding,
She weaves biblical principles into her every day work, so when I have a verse or "what about" regarding scripture she helps me navigate current issues with a biblical lens and grace.
Dr. Dee (left) was one of my graduate professors. I met Dr. Hempen in my district's professional development. I am the LUCKIEST that my path crossed with theirs. They met and wrote an amazing book! I was super thrilled when I saw that they were doing a workshop together. Color me spoiled that two of my educational heroes joined forces to better the field.
Dr. Brandy Hempen is the true real-deal in the classroom. Her strategies for engagement spur the current "boots on the ground" to higher levels of engagement. Given my background in Trauma-informed care, I learned from her strategies, modeling, and regulation. She has also collaborated and wrote a book with my other mentor, which is a shining example to me of effective collaboration for the greater good.
Ms. Mo! Ms. Moisiades was my choir teacher in high school and later became a life coach. Thankfully she's been willing to put up with me for the past 24.5 years. Our "silver anniversary" will be in October. I'm so thankful for her influence and the tapes she has created that I get to play on-demand when needed. She spoke wisdom into my life during the tumultuous adolescent years, helped me navigate through college woes, and is a source of encouragement and perspective today. She eagerly plays the "devil's advocate" and pushes my thinking in new ways by offering "another" or "differing" perspective.
